Under the warm Seattle sun, the Seahawks held their first practice of week three of OTA’s on Monday afternoon. Here are some notes from today’s practice.
I think the two off days this weekend really helped replenish the energy of the players. The highlights I watched showed increased explosiveness. The defensive lineman looked very quick in individual drills and were able to get good jumps off the line during 7-on-7 drills. Jesse Williams looked the best of our defensive lineman on the field today.
According to espn.com Tony McDaniel is listed as one of the Seahawks two starting defensive tackles. Jesse Williams is currently listed as second string behind Brandon Mebane. I have not seen anything special from McDaniel during OTA’s and with the progression of Williams, I would not be surprised if Williams replaces McDaniel as the second starting defensive tackle. Williams would fit best on first and second downs because he is more of a run stopper than McDaniel is.
One injury note from today’s practice, defensive end Cliff Avril still has not been cleared to participate in OTA’s. He was at practice today wearing shorts and a Seahawks baseball cap. Avril is recovering from a foot injury that was first reported on May 21st.
Check back tomorrow for another OTA wrap-up report. Go Hawks!
