Not much going on in Seahawk land today. Pete Carroll did announce today that we have hired four new coaches for 2012. Among them is former Seahawk Marquand Manuel who joins the team as a special teams assistant. Manuel is best known for replacing Ken Hamlin 5 games into the 2005 Super Bowl season after Hamlin suffered brain injuries after being beaten outside of a night club following the Seahawks victory over the Houston Texans. Manuel finished the season as our starting Strong Safety and had an interception in the Seahawks 34-14 victory over Carolina in the NFC Championship game. Manuel is young and relatable, and will be a good addition to help some of the younger special teams players along in 2012.
It was also announced that the compensatory pick the Seahawks agreed to trade in the Marshawn Lynch trade in 2010 will be a 5th rounder. The Buffalo Bills will receive this pick due to Marshawn’s playing time in last season.
Later this week I will start to look at free agency; talking about our free agents, who we absolutely need to re-sign for this season, and what free agents of other teams would be a good fit in Seattle.
