Seahawks passed on “frustrated” Arian Foster

28 Oct

A report released today by revealed the Seahawks were exploring the possibility of taking Arian Foster in the 7th round of the 2009 NFL draft. Foster sat the entire weekend waiting for a phone call and by the time the Seahawks called him late into day two about the possibility of playing in Seattle, Foster naively replied about being one of the Seahawks’s 7th round picks. After the negative vibe the team received from Foster, the Seahawks drafted defensive tackle Nick Reed and tight end Cameron Morrah consecutively. Reed is no longer a Seahawk and Morrah is currently our 3rd string tight end. Foster went undrafted and was signed by the Houston Texans after the draft. He is the defending NFL rushing champion.

Hindsight is 20/20: Yes Arian Foster is the one of the best young running backs in the game but I honestly believe that his success with he Texans would not have been the same with the Seahawks. He was an undrafted free agent, meaning there is a high probability we would have just cut him after the 2009 preseason. Also, the Texans and Seahawks offensive lines are polar opposites. Foster ran for over 1,500 yards last year and I think it would be easy to say he may not have even rushed for half that total in Seattle.
